1. Introductions.

2. Review of Officers.
a. Discussed Special Libraries Situation: Susan Hamada, 2001-2002 ULA Chair, had asked Liz Workman to Chair the Special Libraries Section.   Liz in turn asked Dawn to Vice Chair.
b. Dawn is the current Chair this year.
c. Liz will become Chair again next year and Dawn will be Vice-Chair, unless others are interested in the position.

3. Purpose Statement.
a. Reviewed current Special Library Section purpose statement.
b. Will look at this more closely over the next year, as we figure out where the Special Library Section is going, and whether any changes are needed.

4. Goals and Objectives.
a. Get more members—Look into other Special Libraries/Librarians in Utah.
b. Marketing—get the word out about Special Libraries!

5. Web Sites for Special Libraries, Listservs—Current News
a. Dawn mentioned the number of listservs and web sites now available for special libraries throughout the country—includes law libraries, etc.
b. Would like to incorporate links to these onto the Special Library Section web page over the year.

6. Review of ULA Conference, 2001-02
a. Last year, Liz presented a workshop at the Annual conference on Digitizing Documents.
b. Poster Session was created on the 24-languages project.

7. Fall Conference, 2002-03
a. With the late start of Special Libraries this year, there are no planned presentations or poster sessions for the Fall Conference.
b. Marketing was suggested. Dawn will create a flyer to advertise the next meeting.

8. Ideas for ULA Annual Conference 2002-03
a. Reviewed the theme for this year’s Annual Conference:

“Catch the Big Information Fish @ Your Library”
(come to your library for the best information sources)

b. Presentation Ideas:
        i. Grant Writing—GODORT offered to co-sponsor a presentation on Grant Writing at the annual conference.
      ii. Librarians Survey, Utah—Dawn suggested that we create a presentation on the special libraries/librarians of Utah, which includes a brief overview of the special libraries in Utah (comparisons to public, academic, etc. number-wise) and an introduction to such libraries. Erica mentioned getting a panel of special librarians.
The group decided to divide assignments of librarians and types of libraries to contact:
        Dawn—Epixtech, Jail Librarian, Radio, School Libraries (Chair of School Libraries Section)
        Liz—Innovative Emerg.Mngt.
        Erica—Architecture firms, Quinney, Cephalon, UHSLC, Special Librarians in Universities
        Charmaine—SW UT, Kennecott, Newspapers
        MaryLynn—Engineering Firms, Evans & Sutherland, Prison
        Molly—SE UT, National Parks
        Alice—will follow-up after Fall Conference.
        ? PR firms…also to locate other libraries/library types.
…Items considered for program that may be of interest—budgets, technical services, E-vs.-print, patrons?, cataloging, etc.
    iii. Poster Sessions and Table Talks—other options available for the conference.

9. Other
a. PCMC KidsHealth—Dawn presented discs from PCMC that have consumer health information from KidsHealth. These can be ordered from PCMC.
b. Next Meeting—
The next meeting will be 4pm, Monday, November 18, 2002 at the Canyon Creek Food Court, south end Promenade level of The Gateway, SLC. (Food Court is on the second level, across from Abercrombie & Fitch).
