The Reference & Adult Services Round Table Committee members
were scattered along the Wasatch Front from Logan to Salt Lake
City, which made it hard to get together for meetings. Members
were Carol Kochan, Jane Dotterer, Robin Reid, Fran Zedney, and Tam
Hoskisson. The Committee met one time in person to go over goals
for the year and to discuss ideas for the fall workshop and the
annual conference. The e-mail system was then used heavily by the
chairperson to keep in touch with the other members.
Goals for the year were consistent with those from last year.
The committee felt that we should:
1. Continue to seek input for conference programs from members
of ULA;
2. Sponsor or cosponsor a minimum of one program for the annual
conference;
3. Foster greater communication among RAS members and the
officers;
4. Become more electronically visible by working on development
of a homepage for the ULA website. The committee also
discussed the possibility of setting up a listserv for librarians in
the state to discuss RAS issues and provide reference assistance for
Utah sources.
Suggestions were made for programs for both the fall workshop at
Weber State University and also the annual conference in Cedar City,
and as the year progressed the blocks all seemed to fall into place,
with very little disruption. The chairperson made the ultimate
decisions for the committee and submitted the required forms for
everything to be able to happen.
The Committee decided to focus on getting Kaycee Hale to
speak at the annual conference, possibly more than once. This idea
seemed to to be agreeable to the Program Board and the Conference
Committee and Kaycee was approached.
Kaycee Hale graciously agreed to do a pre-conference workshop as
well as two conference programs. Her programs were well attended at
the conference and people seemed to leave with a good feeling about
having been there.
