  1. Welcome
    • Special welcome to distance participants.
    • Approval of minutes.
    • Minutes approved with no comments.
    • Eve joined us live via teleconference
    • The meeting began at 11 AM in HMR (Eccles Library History of Medicine Room on 2nd floor) and was followed by Button-making party! The buttons were made to promote HeaRT at ULA and represent HeaRT in activities the roundtable participates in.

  2. HeaRT candidates up for election
    • According to the by-laws, the ballot for HeaRT candidates will be mailed to members along with the ULA ballot. HeaRT candidates are:
      Chair - Sally Patrick:
      Vice Chair - Valeri Craigle:
      Secretary - Jeanne LeBer:
      Member-at-Large - Amy Birks.
The election will take place in Spring 2005. Technically there can be up to 3 Members-at-Large.

  3. ULA Conference:
    • The theme is "The Times They Are A Changin'". The conference will be held May 11-13, 2005 inOgden, Utah. The Keynote speaker will be Cheewa James whose address will be titled, "Climb Off Dead Horses: Mastering Change." She is expected to be a good speaker. Nancy Pearl will be the Thursday lunch speaker. The librarian action figure was modeled after her. The Conference Website is up and running - take a look.
    • ULA Programs submitted by HeaRT members (There were a total of 92 programs and posters submitted this year:
      • Eve talked about her program. A representative from Washington D.C. is coming to Utah to talk about the website grants.gov and how to use it. This could be a good funding source for libraries. Those that attend his talk can be the ambassadors and teach others how to use the website. Maybe he could also do a presentation at Eccles and for IHC. Information and coordination will be with Sally Patrick for Eccles and Erica Lake for IHC. The presentation could be on Thursday before the ULA conference starts.
      • Erica - Does your Mouse get more action than you? Pogram approved. Erica needs to work on coordinating with Michael LaMont.
      • Faith - Extreme Librarians (including Lola the Librarian if it is ready) Program approved. This is to rid the librarians of their stereotype. Also, talks about what healthy fun things extreme librarians do. Will be informal and fun.
      • Jeanne - Poster: Fact or Fraud? Health Literacy. Program approved.
      • Val & Nancy (and Ceres with NPRT) - Atkins, Augmentation, and the FDA: How to find factual information about today's top health trends. Program approved.
      • Val & Nancy - Poster: The Neuro-Ophthalmology Digital Library: a NOVEL approach to addressing the information needs of a highly specialized medical community. Program approved.
      • Dawn - Poster: Books with Heart: Bibliotherapy with Kids' Books. Dawn not in attendance most likely approved.
      • Amy - Poster: National Mental Health Month Poster approved. Waiting for packet to be out. Should be sent out some time in the next week.

  4. HeaRT Website -
    • Healthy Happenings: Erica has info to send to Valeri to update that section.
    • Faith and Dawn have not touched base yet about writing book reviews.
    • Healthy Recipes - nothing to report.
    • Healthy Tips: there is a good article in Runners World about how to avoid trans fats. Also, the new Nutrition guidelines have been released by the department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and can be viewed at http://www.healthierus.gov/dietaryguidelines/
    • People who volunteered to monitor sections
      • Book Reviews: Dawn Carroll
      • Healthy Tips: Sally Patrick and Jeanne Le Ber
      • Healthy Recipes: Dawn Carroll and Alice Weber
      • Healthy Happenings: Sally Patrick and Erica Lake

  5. HeaRT Activities
    • "Awakening Utah" Walk for Suicide Prevention which is to be held April 16, 2005. Amy is coordinating this activity. HeaRT buttons will be available. Amy to request any additional help needed. The Walk is having a hard time getting sponsorship for the event itself. Sally knows the publicity woman at the Utah Dept. of Health. Valeri knows the manager at KCPW and KUER is at the U of U. Amy is going to double check with NMHA about a press release. The Walk is going to happen, they just need more sponsors. It is not to raise funds but to promote awareness. Do we want to plan Fun Run to accompany MCML 2005 in September? This was not discussed in the meeting.

    • Promotional Materials
      • Buttons done today ($100)
      • Bookmarks/flyers-evaluate information and print more ($50);
      • poster-($100)

Jeanne, how can we help? Bookmarks/flyers were passed around to check for any changes that needed to be made. Thank you Jeanne for the nice design. There was a typo noticed-need to change 'HEART if full of life' to 'HEART is full of life'. In the future at a conference there could be a poster that noted the history of HeaRT. Erica asks if there are other groups like HeaRT in other state library associations? This would be a good question/presentation to bring to a future MLA conference.

    • Additional business
      • John Bramble attended the meeting to present the Go Local Utah project and ask for a letter of support. Go Local is a joint venture of the RML, MedlinePlus, and individual states. Go Local links from MedlinePlus to information about health services in local geographic areas. North Carolina and Missouri already have their programs up. After some discussion about keeping within the parameters of our HEART goals, Sally motioned, and Colleen seconded that HEART write a letter of support. The motion passed. Alice will write the letter. Individual members are welcome to offer additional services to the projedt if they desire.

    • Set next meeting date
The next meeting has been set for February 25, at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
