NABCO - National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations
The National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations (NABCO) is the leading non-profit information and education resource on breast cancer and a network of over 400 member organizations nationwide. CenterWatch Clinical Trials Listing Service contains trials for many types of diseases. It is searchable by disease categories and geographic area. All of the trials listed are open (enrolling new patients).

National Institute of Mental Health Clinical Trials
Choosing to participate in a clinical trial is an important decision. It is often helpful to talk to your health care provider, family members, or friends about deciding to join a trial. The first two documents on this page may help you with your decision. After you have identified some trial options, the next step is to contact the study research staff and ask questions about specific trials. MedlinePlus
Furnished by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), this service provides access to extensive information about specific diseases and conditions and also has links to consumer health information from the National Institutes of Health, dictionaries, lists of hospitals and physicians, health information in Spanish and other languages, and clinical trials.

PubMed
PubMed was developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It was developed in conjunction with publishers of biomedical literature as a search tool for accessing literature citations and linking to full-text journals at Web sites of participating publishers. PubMed provides access to bibliographic information, which is drawn primarily from MEDLINE, PreMEDLINE, HealthSTAR, as well as Publisher-Supplied citations. In addition, for electronically supplied journals that are indexed selectively for MEDLINE, and include articles unrelated to medicine or the life sciences, PubMed includes all articles from that journal, not just those that are included in MEDLINE. It is expected that access to additional NLM databases will be added in the future. PubMed also provides access and links to the integrated molecular biology databases included in NCBI's Entrez retrieval system. These databases contain DNA and protein sequences, 3-D protein structure data, population study data sets, and assemblies of complete genomes in an integrated system.

Environmental Information

ATSDR's Hazardous Substance Release and Health Effects Database
HazDat, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's Hazardous Substance Release/Health Effects Database, is the scientific and administrative database developed to provide access to information on the release of hazardous substances from Superfund sites or from emergency events and on the effects of hazardous substances on the health of human populations.

United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
The mission of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment--air, water, and land--upon which life depends.

Utah Air Monitoring Center (Utah Division of Air Quality)
Includes daily air pollution reports, historic data, health affects of criterian pollutants, and local weather conditions.

Evaluating Websites - Organizations and Criteria

The Health Summit Working Group
The Health Information Technology Institute of Mitretek Systems convened a Health Summit Working Group to develop a set of criteria for use in assessing the quality of health information on the Internet. They have also developed an "I.Q. Tool" that assists users in evaluating health-related websites. Click on "Begin Using I.Q."

The Health on the Net Foundation
HON's site was posted on the World Wide Web on March 20, 1996, and became one of the very first URLs to guide both lay users and medical professionals to reliable sources of healthcare information in cyberspace. Among HON's distinguishing features are two widely-used medical search tools, MedHunt© and HONselect©, plus the HON Code of Conduct (HONcode©) for the provision of authoritative, trustworthy Web-based medical information.

Medical Matrix
Medical Matrix is a free online resource that rates Websites according to a unique criteria. Websites indexed in Medical Matrix have been reviewed by an editorial board of health professionals. Registration to use Medical Matrix is free.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) implements the Federal laws designed to promote public health by protecting our Nation's air, water, and soil from harmful pollution. EPA endeavors to accomplish its mission systematically by proper integration of a variety of research, monitoring, standard-setting, and enforcement activities.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
The Food and Drug Administration touches the lives of virtually every American every day. For it is FDA's job to see that the food we eat is safe and wholesome, the cosmetics we use won't hurt us, the medicines and medical devices we use are safe and effective, and that radiation-emitting products such as microwave ovens won't do us harm. Feed and drugs for pets and farm animals also come under FDA scrutiny. FDA also ensures that all of these products are labeled truthfully with the information that people need to use them properly.

Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA)
The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. HCFA runs the Medicare and Medicaid programs — two national health care programs that benefit about 75 million Americans. And with the Health Resources and Services Administration, HCFA runs the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), a program that is expected to cover many of the approximately 10 million uninsured children in the United States.

Nutrition Navigator
The Tufts University Nutrition Navigator is an online rating and review guide.
