Helping Your Patrons With Hispanic Genealogical Research by Ruth Gomez Shirmacher, Family History Library
Learn how to assist your patrons with their Hispanic genealogy.  This workshop will investigate the use of Hispanic genealogical resources, research methodology, and reference strategies.  Ruth Gomez Schirmacher has over 20 years experience as a reference consultant in the Family History Library.  The program will be helpful to all librarians serving Hispanic patrons with genealogical and historical research

Books, Bytes, and Bridges:  Serving Genealogists in the 21st Century by Curt B. Witcher, Allen Co. Public Library
This workshop will discuss:
     -contemporary collection development challenges
     -how technology can compliment traditional collections
     -Basic reference services for genealogists, and how to incorporate the best technologies and techniques into reference services.
     -How to engage in digitizing and indexing projects that will benefit both information collections and an institution’s ability to provide the best service to family historians.

Genealogy Reference Services for Public Libraries  and Genealogy Collection Development for Public Libraries by Lloyd Bockstruck

Lloyd Bockstruck is head of the Genealogy Section of the Dallas Public Library and writes the genealogy column for the Dallas Morning News.  He is a popular author of genealogy reference works, including several in the area of military research for genealogists.  He will address the unique nature of reference service for genealogists and how you might approach building a basic genealogy reference collection that is tailored to the needs of your patrons.

DNA Meets PAF: Unlocking the Genealogy Within by Scott R. Woodward

Scott R. Woodward is currently a Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Biology at Brigham Young University.  He is also head of the Center for Molecular Genealogy at BYU.   Dr. Woodward will discuss the Molecular Genealogy Research Project and the project’s goals:  To collect DNA samples within a genealogical context for the purpose of creating the world's most comprehensive correlated genetic and genealogical database.  The database will allow people to enhance and extend their genealogical research through the use of genetics.

Using the Digital Library for Genealogical Research by Kayla Willey, ULA President

Kayla Willey, ULA president, is currently the Metadata Librarian at the Harold B. Lee Library, Brigham Young University.  She will demonstrate how to use the digital projects cropping up in Utah for genealogical research and to enhance your genealogy.  She will show you how full-text diaries and local historical images can bring your genealogy alive.

Newest Internet Sources for Genealogy by Alan Mann

Alan Mann is an accredited Genealogist for England and Channel Islands and is on the staff of the Family History Library. He teaches Applied British Research for BYU, writes columns, reviews, and articles for various magazines, and lectures around the country on Internet and British research.  He will show you some of the new and exciting Internet resources available for genealogy.
