Outreach Mary Maloney from the Salt Lake Public Library provided the group with information on the Business Outreach Task Force that was formed by the library. The groups main goal is to provide outreach to the business community in the Salt Lake area. Some of the activities the task force includes: Regularly attending the meetings and events of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. This enables them to make contacts with different members of the business community Provide classes to a business community hungry for information in such areas as starting and operating a small business, and best business websites Have speakers from area businesses present seminars to the community including the areas of investing and taxes Mary indicated that the task force has been successful. She was asked if there would be any interest in presenting at the annual conference on what was involved in the outreach effort that other public librarians might benefit. Mary said it was a possibility that her or someone from the task force might be able to. Ed will be following up with her to see what kind of interest there is in presenting at the conference. ULA/MPLA Annual Conference Next April ULA and MPLA will jointly hold their annual conference. Here are some possibilities for presentations and poster sessions: Leticia Camacho and Andy Spackman will be submitting a proposal about course integrated non-traditional library instruction for academic librarians. This will be sponsored under BURT along with ACRL, and the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) Patrick Griffis indicated a willingness to do a presentation on providing outreach to the business community from academic libraries. He felt that it would be more beneficial to do this in conjunction with the public library. There will be more follow-up on this item Leticia Camacho will be submitting a proposal to do a poster session promoting the Business Round Table group An idea was considered about doing a presentation on some of the business resources through Pioneer. One thought was to do this with the outreach presentations, but there was concern that it would be too much as one session. This is still under consideration. There are still some other presentation ideas under consideration BURT Webpage Leticia now has complete control of the BURT webpage. There have been some previous discussions of turning the page into a Wiki or Blog. However, Leticia was concerned that the page would not be regularly updated and would quickly get out of date. At this time, she is comfortable with maintaining the page. Since we now have control of the page, it was thought that we might want to put the names of the BURT members on the page. This would only be done with the members consent. Leticia is looking into this possibility. Officers Andy Spackman the current Chair Elect will become the chair for next year. There is a need to fill the other positions Chair Elect, Secretary, and Members at Large. Andy has been in touch with Lesli Baker (the current chair). She is looking into our deadline about submitting names of members to serve as officers. Future Meetings The idea of having a separate meeting outside of the annual conference had universal appeal. However, because of the distance and everyones schedule, it is difficult for everyone to meet in person. To remedy this it was decided that we would try to do a conference call. It was suggested that we try using Skype as a means of trying this since there is no cost involved. Patrick will be setting up a Skype cast where a small group will try it out. If this is successful we will do a full conference meeting in the future. :Ruv( ; < = @ . / ; Z [ ^ _ I !bnop{|}1479g½²۲۲۲hLKh|h|5 h|5h| h$5hRh$ h]% h]% h]% 5h]% h+h&h&h&5 h&5h h#hahah{_U5hc)h{_Uh#h{_U5::;Ruv ( = ? @ [ _ ` !gd& & Fgda!"abop|}gdRgd]% & Fgd]% hzh~hLKh|,1h/ =!"#$% ^ 2 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~_HmH nH sH tH @`@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DA D Default Paragraph FontRiR Table Normal4 l4a (k (No List PK![Content_Types].xmlj0Eжr(΢Iw},-j4 wP-t#bΙ{UTU^hd}㨫)*1P' ^W0)T9<l#$yi};~@(Hu* Dנz/0ǰ $ X3aZ,D0j~3߶b~i>3\`?/[G\!-Rk.sԻ..a濭?PK!֧6 _rels/.relsj0 }Q%v/C/}(h"O = C?hv=Ʌ%[xp{۵_Pѣ<1H0ORBdJE4b$q_6LR7`0̞O,En7Lib/SeеPK!kytheme/theme/themeManager.xml M @}w7c(EbˮCAǠҟ7՛K Y, e.|,H,lxɴIsQ}#Ր ֵ+!,^$j=GW)E+& 8PK!Ptheme/theme/theme1.xmlYOo6w toc'vuر-MniP@I}úama[إ4:lЯGRX^6؊>$ !)O^rC$y@/yH*񄴽)޵߻UDb`}"qۋJחX^)I`nEp)liV[]1M<OP6r=zgbIguSebORD۫qu gZo~ٺlAplxpT0+[}`jzAV2Fi@qv֬5\|ʜ̭NleXdsjcs7f W+Ն7`g ȘJj|h(KD- dXiJ؇(x$( :;˹!
