Conference Report: The Cedar City conference looks like it was a success! The final report will be presented at the September board meeting. The preliminary figures look good. 350 people attended the conference. 78 evaluations were submitted-the comments are posted on the home page.
2000 Conference: The 2000 Conference will be held May 17-19 in Ogden at the Echols Center. The Ogden Marriott has been selected as the conference hotel. The theme will revolve around partnerships.
Fall 1999 Workshop: The fall workshop will be held at the Salt Lake Community College on October ls'. The keynote speaker will talk about Wallace Stegner and his relationsip to Utah.
Go Ask Alice web site: The board discussed the controversy surrounding the ALA Teen Hoopla link to Go Ask Alice. ULA has received a letter complaining about this link. There will be a follow up article in the next ULA newsletter reporting on action taken by YALSA (the sponsor of Teen Hoopla) at the annual ALA Conference.
Request from the State Library for Pass Through Donation: The board agreed to accept a one time pass through donation from Fidelity to the Library 21" Century Fund. The Executive Secretary advises that this can be done once without jeopardizing the 501.c3 status of ULA.
Promotion of Reading Award: The board decided to establish an award to link ULA with reading promotion. It will be called "The ULA Governor's Award for Promotion of Reading".
Inactive Roundtables/Sections: The Directors at Large have studied inactive roundtables and presented a proposal which was accepted by the board. The process will begin to dissolve the AV Roundtable (AVRT). They also recommended taking no action to dissolve the School Section at this time.
Requests to Establish Roundtables: A proposal to establish a Genealogy Roundtable was approved. A proposal to establish a Small Public Library Roundtable was denied. The proposal does not fit the definition of a Roundtable. A subsidiary Committee of the Public Libraries Section will be established for libraries serving populations under 25,000.
Bylaws: Bylaws revisions are due to the Bylaws Chair by August 15. They will be discussed at the September Board Meeting.
