Audit of ULA Finances: An independent audit has been conducted of ULA finances prior to turning the accounts over to the new Secretary/Treasurer. No major problems were identified. The Board voted to add this process to the bylaws so that an audit will occur every three years.
Executive Secretary/Treasurer: Shannon Reid has signed a contract for services.
Bylaws: The Board is proposing bylaw changes to the membership. The ballot is being distributed in the Spring 2000 Newsletter.
Copyright: The Board directed the newsletter editor to add a statement to the newsletter that reads: “All material is reproducible unless otherwise stated.”
Officer Nominations: The proposed Officer Nominations slate was approved.
2000 Conference: The 2000 Conference budget was approved.
2001/2002 Conferences: Conference center space is being negotiated with the Sandy Convention Center.
ALA Report: The ALA Representative submitted a written report.
Intellectual Freedom Committee: The Board adopted a statement drafted by the IFC as a response to HB157. The statement reads: In response to HB157 the Utah Library Association affirms the values of intellectual freedom and open access to ideas, information, and constitutionally protected speech in all formats as the foundation of a democratic society. ULA also recognizes and supports the authority of local communities to determine the selection and use of library resources and materials. Therefore, the use of and access to Internet resources should be carefully studied, evaluated and determined by local public library boards in concert with the relevant laws and ordinances, relevant judicial decisions, the mission of the particular library, and the community served.”
Association Review Committee: The Board approved recommendations to established a committee to review the activity of the board and determine that it complies with the association charter as an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit association.
