Utah Library Association Board Meeting Summary
December 3, 1999

The minutes from the September meeting were approved with one correction.

UELMA: Georgia Loutensock was introduced to the board as the new UELMA representative. She reported that the UELMA conference will be held March 2, 2000.

Executive Secretary/Treasurer: Shannon Reid was appointed Executive Secretary/Treasurer. He is the BYU Lee Library Comptroller. The board moved to conduct an independent audit before Shannon accepts responsibility.

Humanities Council Grant: Randy Silverman announced that he has secured a $5,000 Humanities Council Grant to conduct preservation outreach in rural Utah.

Financial Report: The Financial Report was presented by the Larry Ostler, Finance Chair.

Membership: Membership is lagging. The President made a charge to the Membership Chair to follow-up on members that have not renewed.

1999 Conference Report: The final 1999 Conference Report was presented by the 1999 Conference Chair.

Bylaws:Proposed changes to the bylaws were reviewed. The discussed changes will be made and posted on the home page for review. The bylaws will be approved at the February 4, 2000 meeting and distributed to the membership.

Program Board: The Program Board Chair has resigned. The President will act as Program Board Chair until a replacement is appointed.

2000 Conference Committee Report: (1) The key note speaker for the 2000 conference will be Mark Shurtleff and Reed Richards, candidates for Utah Attorney General. (2) The Board approved the committee proposal to hold the 2001 and 2002 conferences at the Sandy Exhibition Center. Conference dates are May 2, 3, 4, 2001 and May 1, 2, 3, 2002.

Association Review Committee: Pete Giacoma will chair the Review Committee to review the actions of the board. This process is called for annually by the bylaws to insure that the Board of Directors is in compliance with the IRS status. Pete will set up the committee and proceed with the review.

Nominations: There are still officer vacancies on the ballot. The candidate slate will be approved at the February 2, 1999 meeting.

ALA/ALTA Honor Roll: ALA has requested that five Utah Library Advocates be submitted to the ALA/ALTA Honor Roll. Sue Hill will send names discussed to the State Library.

MPLA: Betty Dance will report on ULA activity at the MPLA meeting.

Emporia State Library School: The second Utah consort of the Emporia State Library School will begin in February 2000. Fifty students have been accepted.
