PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE
Goals and Objectives 2005-2006
Increase awareness and support for the Association and Utah libraries

Collect and edit content for bimonthly newsletter beginning with Dec ember 2005 issue
-
Obtain current committee, section, and round table Website information by November 2005
-
Rewrite content for ULA Website (including “About” and “History” pages) by November 2005
-
Work with Executive Board and appropriate contractor(s) to design a new ULA logo by December 2005
-
Redesign ULA Website with updated content by January 2006
-
Establish links to the ULA Website with all partnering organization Websites (where applicable) by January 2006
-
Create a directory of reporter, calendar editor, and radio personnel contact information for relevant media sources by February 2006 and review currency of information each May
-
Write and distribute press releases for each Association event

Write and distribute public service announcements for each Association event

Create and distribute printed and electronic flyers for each Association event

By February 2006, create a ULA fact sheet for distribution in press kits
-
Begin discussion with appropriate ULA groups/individuals to develop a statewide campaign to promote ULA and Utah libraries and present to Board by May 2006
Develop relations with potential and new members [recruitment and retention]

By April 2006, create a printed brochure that provides information about the Association

Organize a first time attendee orientation/welcome session at the 2006 Annual Conference

Organize a new member reception scheduled for Fall 2006 (coordinate with scheduled Board meeting or 2006 Great Issues Forum date)

Send brochure to all non-members in Utah identified on MPLA and other member lists in 2006

Make contact with all new members in 2006 by assembling and distributing new member packets consisting of letter from the President, brochure, section, round table, and committee literature, etc.

Investigate the possibility of matching first time conference attendees with experienced attendees for the 2007 Annual Conference
Improve public relations skills among the membership

Organize a public relations panel discussion or workshop for the 2006 Annual Conference

By May 2006, create and distribute a document that highlights public relations techniques and strategies [ alternative topic: political advocacy skills (partner with Legislative Committee) ]
Develop a system for evaluating the effectiveness of public relations strategies

Ensure that appropriate questions are included in regular member surveys, compile responses from selected questions, and assess public relations strengths and weaknesses

Track the numbers of new, non-renewing, and total memberships in December each year and address significant changes (20%?) in membership statistics
-
Send questionnaires with membership renewal application to all non-renewing members by the end of December 2005
Develop relations with potential and current partners and sponsors

Advertise sponsorship opportunities on Website by December 2005
-
Set up a booth to represent the Association at a minimum of one partner event each year
