The attendance list was updated to reflect all those who participated
and the following changes were made in the text of the minutes of the
September 29th ULA Legislative Leadership Forum:
In paragraph five of the section titled, Background, Public
Library Legislative Issues,
change Cedar City to Kanab.
The following Items were suggested for the Proposed Legislative
Leadership Agenda:
- Reactivate the ULA Public Relations Committee
- Encourage a state-wide master plan/vision statement for public
library development
- Obtain an Institute of Museum and Library Services National
Leadership Grant to develop a methodology for gathering output measures
for electronic services
- Change ULA by-laws to allow for institutional memberships, use
income in support of legislative issues (hire a lobbyist, etc.)
- Establish a state-wide Friends of Libraries grouping affiliate with
Friends of Libraries USA
- Increase the Public Library Development Fund to $1,000,000
- Support the legislative initiatives developed by Utah Academic
Library Consortium
- Support the legislative initiatives developed by the State Office of
Education
- Develop a statement on equitable access to information resources
that emphasizes local responsibility and control, while supporting the
broad principles upon which library services are based
- Lay the groundwork for a Library Capital Facilities Act
There being no further business, the next meeting was scheduled for
November 5 at 12 noon at the State Capitol.
