ULA Fall Workshop & BBW

  • This week is Banned Books Week. Don't forget to promote the freedom to read in your communities! ala.org/bbooks & bannedbooksweek.org
  • On Thursday, September 27, Wanda and DaNae attended a meeting of Davis County School District secondary media specialists where they had been invited to train attendees on basic principles of intellectual freedom. Unfortunately, they were disrespected and not allowed to even finish their presentation. Both left quite upset.
  • On Friday, September 28, Wanda, Joseph, Shawn, and DaNae attended the ULA Fall Workship in Springville. They presented "Selection vs. Censorship" during the 1:30 session with Joseph and Shawn covering the Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statement, DaNae speaking on selection and censorship, and Wanda closing with information about challenges and policies. The presentation was well-received and the Committee heard many positive comments.
  • The Committee then held an impromtu meeting with Adriane (ULA President) and Trish (ULA Vice President) about the Davis County School District issue. The response received on Thursday was related. Wanda is again talking with the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom about our options. Support for DaNae was reiterated.
