Poster Session - Thursday, May 8, 8:00 am - 5:00 pmBen's Guide to the U.S. Government for KidsBen's Guide to the U.S. Government for Kids is the educational component of GPO Access, the Government Printing Office's (GPO) free online service of official Government Information from all three branches of the U.S. Government. Ben's Guide provides information and activities specifically tailored for educators, parents and students K-12. These resources can help teach about our government and how it works. And, just as GPO Access provides locator services to U.S. Government sites, Ben's Guide provides a similar service to U.S. Government Web sites developed for kids.Sponsor: Government Documents Round Table How does the Library Survive Freshman Orientation? You know you'll see 1,600 students in 35 classes in four days. What do you do? Do you give them a tour? Do you teach them subject headings? What do they want? More importantly, what do they need? At Utah State University, we tackled this problem head-on. Out with the in-depth exercise and in with a scavenger hunt. Yes - it was controversial with the librarians and with the instructors. But the students love it! This poster session will show other libraries a unique solution to orientation; the objectives the librarians wanted to achieve; and the evaluations from librarians, instructors and students.Sponsor: Library Instruction Round Table Information Literacy across the Curriculum at Weber State UniversityThis poster session will illustrate the breadth and depth of the information literacy program at Weber State University, and how library instruction fits into all levels of the WSU Curriculum.Sponsor: Library Instruction Round Table Portable Wireless Classroom leads to Partnership with Pathology FacultyThe Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library purchased a portable wireless computer classroom to address the shortage of available computers for instruction. One positive and unexpected result of this purchase was a new partnership with the School of Medicine faculty. The portable wireless classroom consists of ten laptop computers with wireless connectivity, a universal wireless access point, and a wheeled storage/transportation cart. Discussions with the School of Medicine Curriculum Steering committee resulted in an innovative approach to teaching second year medical students onsite in the pathology lab using the library's portable wireless classroom and participation of library faculty. The pathology course director restructured the curriculum to take advantage of networked computers and online resources.Sponsor: Library Instruction Round Table The City LibraryA visual presentation of SLC's showcase library highlighting unique departments and features.Sponsor: SLC Public Library Electronic Reserve at the Markosian Library, SLCCThe development of electronic reserve at the Markosian Library.
