AROUND AND
ABOUT IN OGDEN PLUS REACHING SOMEONE AT THE CONFERENCE
Utah's fourth largest city, Ogden, sits attractively at the base of the Wasatch Mountains. A one-time farming community, Ogden grew rapidly after becoming a hub for the intercontinental railroad. It was further bolstered by the creation of the huge Hill Air Force base nearby. Located in northern Utah on I-15/84 about 35 miles north of Salt Lake City, there are plenty of things to do. Union Station houses many wonderful small museums such as the Wattis-Dumke Railroad Museum where you can view an intricate working HO scale reconstructions of numerous railways or the Browning Firearms Museum with its story of the development of firearms or the Browning-Kimball Car Museum where classic antique cars from the early 1900's are displayed. Feel like a kid? Visit the Eccles Dinosaur Park and view over 100 life size dinosaur replicas attractively presented on five acres of landscaped grounds along the banks of the Ogden River. Get away from it all on Antelope Island, a 75 square mile island of grasslands, marshes, and sand dunes in the Great Salt Lake. A seven mile causeway (Hwys 108/127, Exit 335 off I-15) just south of Ogden provides access. There is a marina, visitor center and restaurant as well as some picnic areas, a swimming beach with showers and two primitive campgrounds. The island is open 7-10 in the summer, and dawn to dusk in winter. An entrance fee of $7 per vehicle is charged. The Ogden Nature Center is a wildlife sanctuary in an urban setting of nature trails with self-guided observation stations, a paved path for handicapped, a treehouse and shaded picnic areas with restrooms. Mountain Biking, Golfing, hiking are also available in this fun city.
